Adorable DIY Canvas Creations

Hey, all you paint-night Picassos and crafter’s, have I got some super simple canvas DIY’s to show you! The other day I was in my local Dollar Tree and came across their HUGE selection of paint canvases! They carry such a great assortment, plus they have so many paints, paint brushes, and other craft accessories to choose from that the possibilities are endless. I decided to get crafty and create a few different pieces for my home, so check out my 2 canvas creations below!

1. DIY Farmhouse Reverse Canvas Sign

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 6×8″ Stretched White Canvas (or whichever size you prefer)
  • Hot Glue Gun (Not Sold at Dollar Tree)
  • Hot Glue Sticks
  • Acrylic Paint (Black and Brown)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Water
  • Utility Knife

Time to Get Crafty!

  1. To being with, I turned my canvas around so that the backside of the canvas was facing upward. I then took my utility knife and cut the canvas off of the wood frame.
  2. I then turned my wood frame back around so that the side with the staples was now on the backside.
  3. Next, I combined brown paint with water and applied it to my wood frame to give it a rustic feel.
  4. Then, I laid my canvas (painting side up) flat on a table and hot glued my frame (the side with the staples) and applied it to the canvas so that the frame covered the entire canvas.
  5. I let the hot glue dry for about 30 minutes and then using my utility knife, I cut the excess canvas away from the wooden frame. Adorable DIY Canvas Creations

  2. Then, I alternated using different paint colors within the geometric designs. I even used Mod Podge® and put gold glitter on it in a few of the designs.Adorable DIY Canvas Creations
  3. Next, I let my paint and glitter dry for about an hour or so before removing the adhesive craft tape. *Note: Don’t let the paint dry completely before pulling off the craft tape because it could take some of the dry paint with it.
  4. I continued to let the paint and glitter dry over night.Adorable DIY Canvas Creations

There you have it… a simple and easy DIY canvas idea to display in your home or give as a gift!

3. Additional Embellished CanvasesDIY Canvas Creations

  1. If using mixed materials (such as buttons, glitter or sequins), paint the base of the canvas first in the colors you want to show, then allow to dry. This will serve as an easy guide when using other materials and f ill in any gaps of color.
  2. To add sequins or glitter, allow paint to dry thoroughly, then add a layer of Mod Podge® or craft adhesive, in small sections. Then, shake glitter and sequins over the sections with adhesive.
  3. To add buttons or gemstones, use hot glue in stripes to create the looks shown here. Only do one stripe at a time, since hot glue dries to canvas quickly.
  4. Make sure to build from small to large materials; adding smaller materials (like glitter and sequins) before bulkier ones like gemstones and buttons.
